Street in black & white
If photography is painting with light, we need shadows to shape those lights. Strong contrasts between light and dark pull me in - help me zero in on scenes as they unfold in front of my camera. Embracing our own shadows lets us cherish the light in our own lives. It makes us human. But, it is also this humanity that makes us receptive to the feelings of others and humanity in situations. If we cannot see the humanity of a moment, photographs might become pointless representations of what surrounds us.
